Prologue
Due to the recent changes in the Order of Sith Mages, in regards to infrastructure and membership, I have decided to clarify for aspiring Mages the actual portfolio of the Mages by creating this guide to outline and explain the duties and expectations of the Mages and how we contribute to the Empire, its Sovereign and the various ruling bodies.
I am Lord Aequitas, Grand Mage of the Order of Sith Mages and alongside the rest of the Mages, serve the Eternal Empire and it’s Sovereign. We, that is the Mages, are the Empire’s foremost authority on paranormal and supernatural activities, the Empire’s chief explorers, have the greatest organisational skills in the Empire and have the ability to change planets in both physical and sentient regards. We are also the keepers of the Empire’s species, both sentient and non, and track members of the Empire to ensure races do not become extinct.
If you have any question, enquires, concerns or suggestions, please forward them to our Office of Enquiries. If you have questions directed at a specific Mage, please direct them to any of the Offices in the public domain.

Planetary Duties
The Order of Sith Mages is tasked with the exploration, assessment and categorisation of the planets of the Empire. The Department of Directives and its members carry out these tasks. We, the Mages, engage in the exploration, assessment and categorisation of the planets of the Empire to determine their worth to the Empire so that resources may be assigned accordingly. These resources can include industry, agriculture, aid, a (new) Moff and military protection. Another resource is terraforming, which will be outlined in a later part of the Portfolio.
A successful exploration of a planet must be completed without the Moff of the planet knowing. This is to prevent Moffs from covering up bad points or highlighting good points of their planets to make them seem better, as such actions would compromise reports and thus, the work of the Empire. All Mages are required to be able to survive harsh planetary conditions with minimal food and/or water and no weaponry as part of their Mage training. This is to ensure that even the most desolate planet is successfully explored.
A successful assessment of a planet covers all of a planet’s resources. The resources are divided between plantlife, animal life, minerals, political power, military power and presence, cultural and historical merits and Force-related resources. This assessment also discloses information on the current species on the planet and assigns them a letter in order of their prevalence. A is abundance, S, is some, R, is rare, and E is extinct. In their assessment, Mages are also expected to keep a look out for paranormal and/or supernatural phenomena. If the danger of these phenomena is real and immediate, an exploring Mage has the authorisation to attempt to combat them or their effects; however, if this is not the case, they are instead expected to report the phenomena to a Mage of the Department of Mysteries. This is dealt with further in a different part of the Portfolio.
A successful categorisation of a planet weighs all of a planet’s resources against its location, importance throughout history and its current Moff to place it in a category based on two scales, the Scale of Importance and the Scale of Benefit/Inhabitancy. The Scale of Importance is a measure of its importance in the context of the entire Empire and ranges from 0 (Unimportant) through 1 (Important) and 2 (Very Important) to 3 (Extremely Important). The Scale of Benefit/Inhabitancy is a measure of how beneficial a planet a planet is in contrast to how inhabited it is and is measured through a colour code. It ranges from Uninhabited through Inhabited - Not Beneficial, Inhabited - Somewhat Beneficial, Inhabited - Beneficial to Inhabited - Extremely Beneficial. Upon completion of a successful categorisation, a Mage must weigh the entire report and make recommendations for improvement of the planet as well as commentaries on its current Moffship.
Terraforming
The Order of Sith Mages is tasked with the terraforming of uninhabitable planets. The Department of Mysteries and its members carry out this task. We, the Mages, engage in the terraforming of uninhabitable worlds in order to primarily render them habitable and secondarily to improve their benefit to the Empire.
A successful terraforming of a planet begins with the removal of the element or factor that causes it to be uninhabitable. In the majority of cases, this is an excess of radiation or lack of an atmosphere. The latter takes longer to rectify than the former but the Mages are equipped to carry out both.
The next stage in a successful terraforming of a planet is the creation of new habitats. Habitats are divided between plains, deserts, waters and mountains and these are further subdivided into marshes, forests, jungles, hot deserts, tundra, seas, oceans, lakes, rivers, hills, fold-mountains, volcanic mountains and plateaus/mesas.
The next stage in a successful terraforming is the introduction of microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria, amoeba, plankton, algae and viruses. These are the base of a successful eco-system.
The next stage in a successful terraforming is the introduction of more complex plantlife such as flowers, trees, cacti, ferns, mosses, lichens, grasses, kelp and seaweed. Without these, it will be impossible to introduce animal life. Plantlife are also important in the maintenance of a breathable atmosphere.
The next stage in a successful terraforming is the introduction of animal life. It is important for there to be an even blend of herbivores, carnivores, insectivores and piscivores to prevent overpopulation in any species, as that species’ predator would keep its numbers down.
The final stage in a successful terraforming is the introduction of sentient species. This is the ultimate step in placing the planet in question firmly under the grasp of the Empire, by inhabiting it with Imperial citizens. Once this is done, the Mages may maintain their presence on the planet for no longer than six months without setting up a Grand Branch or Department Headquarters on the planet.
Supernatural and Paranormal Activities
The Order of Sith Mages is tasked with the investigation and, ultimately, explanation of a Paranormal and/or Supernatural activity in the Empire or within Galaxy borders. The Department of Mysteries and its members carry out this task. We, the Mages, engage in the investigation of these phenomenons in order to primarily learn more about the Galaxy and those residing in it.
The first step in the investigation of a phenomenon is the Order of Sith Mages being notified of such an event. This is usually done by the Mage investigating the planet and/or area of the Galaxy where said event was experienced. However, members of the public are also known to contact the Order with information regarding strange or unusual happenings.
The second step of the investigation involves the deployment of a Mage from the Department of Mysteries to the site where the event was said to have occurred. The Mage will then collect evidence, both physical and oral, and move to categorise the phenomenon under special classification system consisting of several categories. These categories are known only to the Mages.
The third, and final step, is only deployed when the phenomenon is deemed dangerous. Using methods learned in their elite training, the Mages would attempt to destroy, capture or stop the phenomenon from causing or threatening to cause harm to life in the area. They will then repeat step two before completing their mission.
Internal Structure
The Order of Sith Mages’ internal structure is a simple, yet effective one. A Grand Mage, assisted in his duties by a High Mage, leads the Order. The various Commissioners, i.e., Heads of Departments within the Order, give them weekly reports. These Commissioners, in turn, are the direct superiors of the rest of the Mages within the Order. There are some degrees of ranks for the non-office holding Mages, given based on experience and merit.
