Given that Mario's decision to resign/retire his character Prognie, a chance has arisen for us to examine the role of the Inquisitors and the implications this absence will have on the current system of Grand Vizier/Darkest Knight.

Option A.) Appoint a new Grand Inquisitor. You?

Option B.) Integrate the Inquisitors as a branch of the Armed Forces.

Option C.) Integrate the Inquisitors as a branch of the Royal Guard.

---

Option A.) Open the jobs to popular election.

Option B.) Let me appointment GV/DK.

Option C.) Let the Dark Lords fight it out.

Option A - yes, pick me!

Option C - let them fight.

Option B. With the Inquisitors on the run from Prognie's storyline, they would be an untrusted Order anyway. So by integrating their resources and expanding Military Intelligence capabilities and directives, you would solve both problems (Inquisitor future and reliable Intel source).

Option A. It worked the last time, didn't it?

Option A.  Not me, but I already spoke with you on who I think would make a great Grand Inquisitor.  (And yes, this is the Shadow Protector voting against making it part of the Royal Guard)

Option B.  I trust you.

Due to the absence of the ability to edit your posts in this forum, I have had to make a second post to outline my reasoning for the choices that I made.

I chose Option A for various, yet important reasons. Firstly, integrating them into another Order, would give that Order a substantial increase in the power they wield. Integrating them into the Military would give the Military an increased power, portfolio and objectives in the Empire, which would substantially affect the balance of power.  The same would happen if integrated into the Royal Guard.

Secondly, the integration would severely affect the other Orders. Not only are the Inquisitors and the Military the most popular choices for new Empire entrants, but the combination of the two would put the Military, or indeed the Royal Guard, into a more powerful position among the Imperial Orders. This would affect activity in the other Orders, perhaps even wiping them out – as has almost happened with the Inquisitors.

Thirdly, the Inquisitorus, as a stand-alone Order, has a proud and interesting history in the Empire. Its loss would also affect this. In addition, their integration into another Order might devalue its prestige among other unique aspects.

As someone who has been in three Orders, I can attest that uniqueness is important to an Order. It should not be integrated into another Order, as it deserves to continue its unique stance in the Empire as the Order that strikes terror into the lawbreakers.

As for leadership of this Order, I would resign as Grand Mage to take control and re-affirm this Order’s stance in the Empire. The Mages would be in good hands, as would the Inquisitorus. As previously stated, I have the experience of three Orders, one of which being the Military, and could use that in the re-affirmation of the Order.

I stand by option C

Option C. The Royal Guard is all about the physical protection of the Emperor, so it makes sense they should have the secretive protection as well.

We could say that Prognie's Inquisitors have broken free from us and sided with the Rebels - this provides rp opportunities for us to deal with them, while new people who want to join the Inquisitors can do so.

Option B. You are our Emperor, you make the decisions. You know who would do the best for each job. The problem is finding Sith active enough, and willing enough, to do it.

Option A. The Inquisitorius is a strong tradition not only on this site, but on many others and in Star Wars canon in general. The idea of the Inquisitorius merging with the Military is abhorrent to say the least, by Marix's own testimony it already contains half of all Sith, imagine if it merged with the Inquisitorius, the Military would become far too powerful. There has to be a balance of power, with the Military on one side of the scales and all the other Orders on the other.

I am also opposed to a merger of the Royal Guard and the Inquisitorius, though less strongly than a merger of the Military. The two are highly distinct Orders and the Royal Guard was already subject to a merger, with the Hands. The Royal Guard has Covert Ops, it doesn't need the Inquisitorius as a component. And since the Shadow Protector himself has spoken against such a merger, I see no reason to consider this idea further.

Furthermore, there have been enough mergers, the aforementioned Royal Guard/Hand merger and the Prophet/Alchemist merger had a basis, mutual missions, purposes and activities but the Royal Guard, Inquisitorius and Military have similar but disparate missions, the exclusive protection of the Emperor, Dark Lords and their family, the covert protection of the Empire from internal and external non-military threats and the overt protection of the Empire from internal and external military threats. A merger would be illogical and impractical.

Aequitas knows my feelings on who I believe could succeed Prognie, I shall shortly make them known to the Emperor.

---------

Option B. I don't like the idea of the elections. The last time, we got Prognie and Praxeum, the first of whom has quite clearly left the site and although was active in his time, was not in my honest opinion, up to scratch for such an important position and the second of whom, in the time I was on the site at least, got increasingly inactive, to the stage that Crozeus is basically running the Prophets, like Aequitas before him and any Grand Vizier duties are carried out by another site member controlling his character.

Maybe we'd get better results this time but to be perfectly honest, there's a lot of bias on this site, and I'm no less guilty of it than anyone else. A popular vote here would be exactly that, a popularity contest. I think that actual qualifications would be obscured firstly by IC Order biases and secondly by OOC personal biases.

Will, you, on the other hand, I trust to be mature enough and intelligent enough to consider everyone fairly and appoint the people best suited for the jobs.
