We seem to be speaking at cross-purposes, Samuel. I'm not claiming that a particular weapon causes Light Side or Dark Side tendencies, or that it means everyone who uses it has to be one thing or another, I'm refering to a cultural association.
For example, a YT-1300 freighter is a Corellian ship, but that doesn't mean everyone you find flying one will be a Corellian. However, showing up in a YT-1300 will create a certain reaction, and a lot of people will think "Corellian smuggler" before you even get out of your ship. Similarly, pulling out a lightsaber will make most people think "Jedi" unless you're dressed all in black and the lightsaber has a red blade.
Similarly, the lightwhip generates a particular reaction, largely because the only two known figures from the EU who use one as their main weapon are both Sith Ladies, albeit their whips were of vastly different designs. The example you give of a Jedi wielding it, is an exception that proves that point, as Kit Fisto used a whip as part of a deception, to not be readily identified as a Jedi, but still have a weapon with as much utility as a lightsaber (do I understad that correctly?)
It is because of such associations that I wondered if anyone had commented on it, but apparently not.
Incidentally, what color was Fisto's lightwhip? Does anyone know if it's pictured on the cover of a particular edition of the book (hardcover, paperback)?
