I got GIMP yesterday and I was messing around with it. I made this and I'm working on a few more, please give me your opinion:

In fact, thats also true. Star Wars is not a universe that everything was created before like Middle Earth. So someone draws something cool then everything starts to move around that new thing. For example, it is most probably impossible to say that Zabrak would be such a famous species if Maul would not be created.

Will's seems to be the best you have done so far. You integrated the text into it, which makes it look better than with the text just sitting there. The photos are also merged and not just placed over each other.

I think you found the "layers" option bar, lol.

I merged all images down. I seriously am beginning to dislike you, you're apparantly the No.1 authority on forums and now GIMP?? I seriously doubt it. I merged all images down. I should know because I was the one who created it. I've followed all tutorials on youtube, official websites etc.

From here on in, all comments are welcome, criticism too, but don't tell me I didn't do something which I KNOW I did. Especially since you weren't there.

Aequitas, calm down, he complimented you and yet you found some way to blow up about it. Just because you followed a tutorial does not mean you had the same results. The images do in fact look cut out and pasted on there, regardless of whether or not you merged, that's not what Marix is talking about. What's he's talking about is blending which means you didn't take the time to combine the pictures together in an effective manner. Look at my signature, see how the images do not look like I simply cut it out with scissors and glued it on? The edges of the smaller image of the guy is smooth and realistic as opposed to choppy and unreal. I am not sure about GIMP's tools so I can't explain to you the proper way to blend there but do know that there are ways to better blend things together and it doesn't just involve cutting or however you do it. When you do a good blend the image does not look so flat and 2D, which is sort of how yours look now.

I blew up beacuse the one he took as an example I feel is one of my best. I spent 3 hours on it. Now, some of the images on it are placed in those areas for a reason. Yes, it may look choppy, but I adjusted opacity, I merged down. Those are effects, no?

I apologise for reacting badly but I did work hard on it.

But the point is that you can improve, that's what criticism is for, you may have spent hours on that and that's good but you can still improve. Art is about improving and changing, you're never going to be perfect. If you wanted something to be evident in your art and it wasn't and someone says it wasn't, then that's a signal that you should try harder next time to make it more visible. It's a learning experience, don't expect every critic to be nice, I grew up with hard critics be it teachers or friends.

I did not accuse you of not doing something you did. you may have put the images together and merged the layers, but you did not blend the images to make one coherent picture/banner.

The images are cut and have rough edges. You may have merged them over each other, but the edges are still rough and hard-cut.
Look up GIMP Script-fu's and download them. They can give you good effects that you can use to blend the images together...

I was merely commenting from my side of the image. I was not there when you made it, yes you are right on that, so I can only go by what I SEE and determine from my side of the website...

I feel you blurred her arm a bit too much and you should of used a small brush to blur the hair so it doesn't appear to be so rough and cut out. The point of blending is to actually blend the image in with whatever background or other images you're using.

Question: what method do you use for blending?

I don't blend as it doesn't explain how. I just get the image, cut the part I want out and try my best to make it work with the background.

In GIMP there is a tool/function called Blurring. Its button on the GIMP toolbar looks like a raindrop. Click on it, select a brushsize and then go over the edges of the image. Make sure you have selected the right layer when doing this. It will blur the edge and "merge" the frontal image slightly with its background. This works better with darker backgrounds.

It is true, places like France, Italy and Spain are very dirty, but sometimes in a kind of good way. I love seeing Rome though. I decided to try and see the sites of the seven ancient wonders. So far I've got Rhodes, Alexandria, Giza and Olympus, and I'm going to Harlicanassus in February.

Ephesus is better than Halicarnassus if you like ancient stuff and Bodrum (current town there) is very expensive than usual. Turkey is a cheap country but on touristic coastline, they are trying to siphon all tourists' money. Also you can try Troy, I think the horse used at movie is still there.

The proportion of the blade to the handle looks off. Perhaps a longer blade. That was something I had to keep on changing when I made mine, it never looked right in length. That's why my image is huge... haha
