Here is a cool lightsaber guide for photoshop
1) Draw a white straight line either vertical or horizontal.
2) Choose ellipse tool to draw the tip of the blade
3) Combine ellipse and line by right clicking. (convert into something blah blah)
4) Choose a very pale (very close to white) tone of ignition color you want as blade as secondary color while white stays as primary one
5) Choose the blade line's area by a tool
6) Select Gradient Tool from toolbox (if you cant see it, click on paint bucket button and wait, there you will see Gradient tool)
7) From top gradient tool box, choose "reflected gradient" (fourth from beginning)
8 ) From one edge to another, apply the gradient with a straight line. The purpose of this step is to give inner white line a round 3D effect
Note: You can perform steps 5-8 also from Layer>Layer Style>Gradient Overlay. But you have to define colors before doing this
9) Apply its ignition by Layer>Layer Style>Outer Glow from top menu
10) Add the hilt you want to use
11) After you add hilt, you will see that edge of the hilt and igniton not fit well. So firstly combine all pictures together, then go to Filter>Render>Lens Flare from top menu. Add a small flare to the point where ignition comes out. Here is your lightsaber.
Here I made a quick saber for you. Gradient is not specific at all, but it is there

After hilt is all done
1. Open new layer. Have it's color be the foreground color, and have your foreground color be black. Then set it to screen.
2. You can use either a brush or a path. path is easier for prop type images, and brush is easy no matter what you do. Se the brush size right, then set it to white. Click on the starting point, hold shift, and then click on the ending point.
3. When all that is good, duplicate that layer twice. Go back to the original blade layer. Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and set it to 5 pixels.
4. Go to the layer right above the one you just did the blur to. Once again, Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur, and this time set it to 20.
5. Do this to the one above the 20 px blur, and do it at 40. Then merge it down. Only do that once, or it will mess up. Then, when you do that, the screen will go black. Set it on screen. It will go back to clear.
6. Finally, the glow! Go to Color>Color Balance, and set it at what you want. Highlights aren't really needed, Midtones and Shadows usually are. You can decide if you want luminosity or not.
