High Mage Serratus

Darth Serratus's Image BarnDecided to start a thread, I've only started using GIMP so bear with me. And my first post is actually to ask for help with this:
It's supposed to be transparent. I got the guide on how to make it transparent here;
http://www.freewebs.com/howtosprite/
The one for GIMP obviously. I'm certain I followed what it said to the letter, any thoughts?

When you make it transparent, you can't save it as a JPG. JPG's don't allow transparency.
Try saving it as a PNG.

It is .png.

Do you have the .xcf file for GIMP?
What did you want transparent? The white parts?

I know of no .xcf file. Where would I check? And yes, the white parts.

If he wanted the white parts gone then shouldnt he have added an Alpha level?

*points at guide used*
*points at part about adding alpha level*

Then why didn't you erase the white parts?

There's an easier way. I'll work on it.
Adding an Alpha Layer would probably work, but he could just erase the white parts and see the "checkered" board underneath. That signals Transparent. Then save it as a PNG but fiddle with the options.
The .xcf file is a GIMP workfile. So if you start something, but can't finish you save it as an .xcf. That saves the different layers and effects you used, whereas a JPG, GIF, or PNG compresses it all into one layer.

Thats what I would do usually.
And when I stop a sig and want to finsh it again I save it as an .xcf

Aequitas, the point is, I did erase the white parts but it didn't work. I'll give it another spin and see if it works.

You didnt say you did.

Quick try.

I said I followed the guide. The guide involves erasing the white. I have transparency. But there's a mistake. Dammit.
EDIT: Mistake fixed. Wootwoot.
