Now I can continue from Slipknot. In todays music industry, 90% of bands are not playing the music they want to, they are playing what producers want to, so they can earn money over those bands. All those masks, change in music, alternative projects are all to earn few cents more. Thats why bands have producers. For each full length albums (lets call it an average complication of 12-13 songs), bands record at least 20 songs then they (have to) let producers to choose which ones to put into album. And most generally those chosen songs are the ones who fits in main genre of that kind of music - Im not talking about metal, about all genres.
So its meaningless to record a glam rock album today or a synth pop album, because you know they will fail miserably. Thats what Slipknot and all other bands does. Really there are 2 big metal bands thats not changed over time: Slayer and Iron Maiden, they always played what they wanna play, but other bands are just in a small boat between freak waves, they are just going where the waves lead to. Now lets take a look to some famous bands. Linkin Park was a nu-band, now turning into emo, Metallica was a trash band, already turned into hardcore (im sure they would shift in metalcore if Kirk was capable enough lol), Bullet for my Valentine was a grunge/metal band (search if you dont believe me), now they are into emo/metalcore, I dont even wanna mention bands like Korn, Limp Bizkit, In Flames etc.
Shortly, now the industry is merciless, obey your master or die
High Commander Vexen
One other band that hasn't changed since they began and thats Jounrney...well their lead singer has, but the music hasn't.
High Prophet Crozeus
Journey just go on forever.
Mage Superior Odin
Those examples were metal bands, surely there are many bands not changed
Darth Cruiciatus
Dragonforce hasn't... Because it's the same freaking song.
Iron Maiden's success is amazing, because when they came out, they had virtually no airplay to help them. They just kept recording and touring.
High Prophet Crozeus
What's their song about William Wallace? Is it Freedom?
Mage Superior Odin
Clansman from Virtual XI (I think)

Right, let's see.
1. How the f*** would you know? Sorry for the (albeit censored) coarse language, but you're not in any of the bands. You can't possibly know that 90% of bands aren't playing what they want to play, unless you or someone else has surveyed every band on earth.
2. For the music industry, bands do record a lot of songs, but that's because they want to, not because they have to. Linkin Park had approximately 40 songs written for M2M, there are what? 14? Slipknot had the album ready for post-pro when Joey Jordison wrote the first version of All Hope Is Gone and by all accounts it's their favourite song from the album.
3. Unless they're signed on to an oppressive pop label, the band and the producer decide what songs go on. And before you say anything about the producer, there are generally more people in a band than one, so if the band really wanted a song on the album, they could easily outvote the producer and there are nine guys in Slipknot. For a good account of recording albums, read Anthony Kiedis's autobiography Scar Tissue.
4. Okay let's get this straight. Bands play the music that they like to play. If in the space of five years, a thrash band starts listening to metalcore and they like it, do you think it would be unreasonable for them to incorporate metalcore into their sound? Because you're so opinionated about the music you listen to, you forget that the people who make the music have an opinion about the music and just because you like them when they were all thrash with no metalcore influence doesn't mean that they're selling out by playing thrash with metalcore influence.
5. Linkin Park are not going emo. You probably don't even know what emo sounds like you just associate emo with the stereotypical emos that listen to the music you think is emo. Emo is an offshoot of hardcore with a focus on emotions. My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco, Fallout Boy and Paramore are not emo bands. Two quotes from Panic! and MCR are;
"emo is a pile of s***"
"emo is bulls***."
The word your looking for is alternative. But back to Linkin Park. M2M was just an experimental album. Their next album is going to be nu-metal. I don't think that you can justify saying that Linkin Park are going emo just because after a decade as nu-metal band, they released an experimental album with NO emo in it.
6. For all other bands with the exception of Limp Bizkit see point no. 4. In the case of Limp Bizkit, they were controlled by Fred Durst, the biggest sell-out in metal history. So don't blame Wes and the other guys who were serious musicians.

Then I had to mirror this to you
Quote:

Same question also applies for you. I dont know who you are, but i have been into many amateur bands for years, and at least I know who a producer is, who the musician is. I also have a considerable musical knowledge on academic level. Im not a 10 yo poser kid thinks metal means Metallica or Tokio Hotel is the best band in the world. I dont have any aggression towards you since I dont know you, but it looks like you have, so you should try to know people before tagging. I can keep on posting on this talk for an infinite time but I dont want to keep this discussion anymore, its going bad
High Prophet Crozeus
Dean, I don't care if it is censored or not. In context like that i.e. not a quote, do not put it in your post.
High Mage Serratus
Sorry Crozeus.
Odin, I have absolutely no aggression towards you and I never claimed to know about you. I challenged you on the way you talked about things as if you had some sort of omniscient knowledge. You do seem to bear some aggression towards me as you covertly implied that I'm "a 10 yo poser kid thinks metal means Metallica or Tokio Hotel is the best band in the world". I'm in to many amatueur bands, I know of many producers, I know who is in the bands that I like. I never claimed to have insider information, I used only information I acquired from good sources. And unless I missed something, I took all the information I gave from the members of bands I was referring to or to a great musician who has recorded, I believe, six albums? Before you accuse me of tagging (which I didn't, notably), don't do it yourself.
Mage Superior Odin
Read all my previous posts, I have never mentioned a word about you, i felt like getting tagged continuously, so I have to make some points clear. I wanted to keep this conversation on an intellectual level but we couldn't manage to do it, so it is better to end this right here for both of us.
High Mage Serratus
I said that you covertly implied that I was "a 10 yo poser kid thinks metal means Metallica or Tokio Hotel is the best band in the world" and by turning my own question against me, strengthened that implication, in claiming that I gave information that was not obtained from a good source.
Why would I read all your previous post when I only said that you said anything about me in the post you made just before the post I made the statement in?
I'm quite happy to carry on an intellectual discussion but you've completely ignored 5 points I made to focus on a point just because it had coarse language in it.
Mage Superior Odin
Ok, dude, you all right, i lose, you won, please end this.
High Mage Serratus
Fine, w/e.

Ever heard of Boston?

Boston hasn't sold out. -_- At least not that much.

The song "Chinese Democracy" is good. The rest is sorta meh.

Since this is about Bands and Music, the Pop Princess Britney Spears' new album was released today.
Kevin's rating: 3.5/5 stars
Mage Superior Odin
I dont believe that anyone is interested in Britney here, but thanks
Grand Inquisitor Prognie
Kevin's rating stinks, her album is at best 4.8/5 stars. It's what Blackout was supposed to be but never was.
Mage Superior Odin
okay, i shut up lol
High Prophet Crozeus
I don't think people are all that interested in the "music", if you get my meaning.
Sovereign Defender Tarna
I think "Circus" and "If U Seek Amy" are awesome, but the rest (especially "Womanizer") are sub-par. But oh yes, she has returned.
And Britney isn't really about the music, it's about the wonderful ridiculous spectacle of it all. The catchy tunes, the wild choreography.

How sick is Bullet For My Valentine?
The Poison was a sick album.

Poison is generally better than Scream Aim Fire, But song SAF is their best song from my point. Also watching them live is so.... boring
Kindrid Nokah
Time for a revival.
Coheed and Cambria is the perfect example for a band that makes the music they want. All of their albums pertain to The Amory Wars, a story written by Claudio Sanchez, the lead singer and guitarist of Coheed. The band even fought their label to make "Welcome Home" their first single off of Good Apollo: Vol. 1 instead of "The Suffering" and the label was okay with it. If that isn't a true band, I don't know what is.
Also, if you're a fellow Coheed fan, their fifth album is due in Spring 2010!
