Bio: Jiub Dur was born on Corellia into a middle-class family in Coronet City. No one knew about his force sensitivity for a long time. In fact, many people in his family were even skeptical about the force and his father, Ban Dur, believed that it was all a hoax made up by some talented magicians. So, Jiub was told early on to never trust anyone who told him that they could use the force.
Jiub did hear about Jedi exploits from time to time though. He asked his father and he replied, “There are two reasons, 1. Jedi are just talented people who can fire a blaster and wave around a sword well. 2. They probably pay off the media!” And every other question that Jiub asked was answered by something that just made the Jedi look worse.
So, Jiub’s early life went along relatively normal except for unlike most kids, he despised the Jedi. Things went along like this until he was about ten years old. It was late at night and he lay fast asleep, while little did he know a thief had infiltrated their house and was picking up goods. Jiub’s father, Ban, awoke as the thief entered his room. He jumped out of bed, but the thief pulled out a blaster and shot his father, and then his mother.
This awoke many of the people in the house and caused a great panic. The thief shot them all, one-by-one. Amazingly, Jiub slept through it and the thief never entered his room. The thief slipped away without notice.
When Jiub awoke the next morning, the house was unusually quiet. There was no sound of the usual bustling of his family. He walked out into the hallway and, the first thing he saw was a huge blood spot on the wall. He looked down and saw the dead body of his sister, Ikara. He almost fell backwards. But he forced himself to walk out and find his parents. Before to long, he found his entire family was dead. He ran out front and threw up on the street.
One of his neighbors was walking by and when he saw Jiub asked, “What is the matter?” Jiub barely even acknowledged the man’s presence. So, he asked, “Where are your parents?” Jiub curled up even tighter. The man entered the house just to find the same horrors. He quickly called the authorities, and when they came, Jiub still wouldn’t talk. Jiub didn’t know what to think of anything, or to say. So he just stayed where he was, and didn’t move until one of the officers led him to a speeder.
They began to drive towards the station. On the way, Jiub just stared out the window. They passed a pawn shop on the way, Jiub saw a suspicious looking person walk out of the building. He had some strange feelings as he saw that man, but didn’t know what to think of this either. He burned the image of that man into his mind.
When they reached the police station, they attempted to ask him questions again. But still, he would not speak. He did not have any living family members close enough to take him in. He was taken to an orphanage until they could figure out what to do.
In the orphanage, he still didn’t speak. But one day, a Jedi Knight by the name of Jek-sipe came by the area as he investigated rumors of a pirate presence. Suddenly out of no where a group of raiders attacked. A huge battle ensued. The orphanage was evacuated into some nearby hills along with much of the rest of the population of Coronet City.
During the raid, a Jedi came to help guard the population. He passed by Jiub and suddenly stopped. “Where are your parents?”
The head of the orphanage was about to explain that he doesn’t talk when Jiub quickly said, “My parents are dead.” Jiub just had a feeling that he had to know this person. Everyone who knew him was shocked; as it was the first time they had ever heard him speak.
The Jedi Knight didn’t look surprised at all, but just said, “I would like to speak with you again after the battle if you don’t mind.” Jiub nodded and the Jedi walked on. Jiub remembered all that his father had said about the Jedi being hoaxes. Anger burned inside him as he thought, “He is just trying to turn me into a magician to trick people into thinking Jedi are good!” He glared at the Jedi down the row, pretending he was here to help people. Just then, some of the raiders burst through the cave entrance. The Jedi ignited his saber and ran forwards, reflecting fire. Then someone fired a rocket launcher, the Jedi used the force to redirect the rocket away from the people, but close to himself. The Jedi was killed and the army finally got there to kill the power hungry raiders.
Jiub’s life was forever changed. He had seen that the Jedi really do have the force, and this Jedi affirmed that there was something about him. It was destiny that had brought the Jedi to Jiub! And he knew that as soon as possible, he would become a Jedi. As soon as he could, he left to join the Jedi, bartering his passage on various vessels.
He eventually reached the Jedi academy, and was assigned Jedi Knight Vyn Rotak as a Master. Vyn Trained Jiub until it was time to take the trials to become a Jedi.
