Lord Aequitas entered the chamber slowly. He looked around and saw the Shadow Protector. The High Historian nodded at the Dark Lord before turning his gaze onto the apprentice.

"Jerina, tell me, what Order is it you wish to join? And why?"

Darth Ultiria

Jerina bowed before the new Lord who had come. "I wish to join the Royal Guard, to perfect the art of the blade and to become an assassin, to serve the Empire."

She looked nervously to Lord Tarna, who nodded.

Lord Aequitas

Aequitas nodded. "I see. If the Emperor's life was in peril, what would you do?"

Darth Ultiria

Jerina smiled. "I would defeat any threats around him and escort him to safety, milord."

Lord Aequitas

Aequitas looked at the young girl. "If his life was in danger and you had to sacrafice yourself, would you do it?"

Darth Ultiria

Jerina's reply was instant. "If there were no other options, of course."

Lord Aequitas

Aequitas paced around the room glancing at the apprentice as he did so. "What is the most important thing your Master taught you?"

Darth Ultiria

Jerina thought for a second, remembering their extensive training. "To always be alert and ready for anything. Attacks can come from everywhere."

Lord Aequitas

Aequitas stopped pacing. "You are a former Jedi, how can we trust you, let alone trust you to protect the Emperor?"

Darth Ultiria

Jerina smiled again, remaining motionless, watching the Sith Lord. "Because there is nothing I want more in the world than to kill a particular Jedi."

Lord Aequitas

"So, once you kill that Jedi, you will leave the Sith? Is that what you mean? Do you mean that you only joined the Sith for vengence and once you do that you will disgard us?" Aequitas stared at the young one.

Darth Ultiria

Jerina stopped smiling. "If that were true, would I be here, being trialed to take a Darth title and join the ranks of the Sith for real?"

Lord Aequitas

Aequitas nodded. "It could be. Perhaps your target is one beyond your reach and you need someone of power to help you. To do that you need to have some respect."

Aequitas started to pace again. "However, I have no doubt of your sincerity. Do you know why? Because you were trained by the Shadow Protector. He would know if you were to betray us or not."

Aequitas stopped once again. "Tell me Jerina. Once you kill this Jedi, what will you do?"

Darth Ultiria

Now that was a difficult question to answer. Jerina was silent for a long moment before she replied. "I will determine if I am satisfied. If I am not, I will know by then what else I must do to achieve freedom, to achieve my victory."

Lord Aequitas

Aequitas leaned against the wall. "Jerina, what does being a Sith mean to you?"

Darth Ultiria

Jerina looked at him. "Power. Respect. Dignity. And eventually, victory. Through power I gain victory and through victory my chains are broken," she recited dutifully.

Lord Aequitas

Aequitas sighed. "And what will you do when your chains are broken, when you do defeat that opponent. Will you go rouge, become a threat or will you stay a loyal dutiful servant of the Empire?"

Darth Ultiria

Jerina coughed slightly. "I sincerely doubt I could ever be a threat. I will stay here. I am not one to back down from a committment, and I am committing myself to the Royal Guard. This is my home, and I have made friends here. I will stay."

Lord Aequitas

Aequitas nodded. "What is the name you wish to take and why?"

Darth Ultiria

Jerina grinned. "I wish to take the title of Ultiria. It is a semblance of my revenge."

Lord Aequitas

Aequitas sighed before straightening up and walking towards the door. "Then I give you this advice. Do not let revenge take over your life."

He turned to the Dark Lord. "Lord Tarna, knight your apprentice, if you wish."

Darth Ultiria

Jerina watched him go. She made a silent vow to herself to follow his advice, then turned to face her master.

Sovereign Defender Tarna

"Jerina, do you solemnly swear," Tarna removed his lightsaber from his belt, activated it, and held it in a salute, "...to preserve, protect, and defend the Eternal Empire in any way the Darkest Lord and Emperor shall command?"

Darth Ultiria

Jerina bowed her head. "I do."

Sovereign Defender Tarna

"Then rise, Darth Ultiria, and take your place in the Eternal Empire."

Supreme Commander Alor

The small messenger droid hovered outside the door, waiting for the end of the ceremony. Hearing the knighting end, the droid buzzed into the chamber where Jerina had just been knighted.

Floating over to the new Sith, the holo-projector on the top of the droid whirred, clicked, and then hummed to life, presenting an image of Lord Marix.

"I apologize that I could not say this in person, but urgent matters appeared. Congratulations, Jerina upon your assumption of the title of Darth. May you serve your Emperor and his Empire as well as your served your master in your training, and then to achieve more than that servitude."
Lord Marix saluted her with his saber, and then the image faded out, the humming stopped and the droid floated away, off to perform more duties and then return to the Military Head Quarters.

Darth Ultiria

Jerina rose, looking straight at her Master, no, her ex-Master.

"Thank you, Dark Lord Tarna. I am truly honoured. And thank you, Lord Marix, for your unexpected congratualtions."

She had never felt better in her life.
