Mara Jademara jade is in the EU she served the empire. Later she was turned to the light by look after the emperor's death. So do you think she is more of a sith or dark jedi?

Neither - she was never trained as a Sith or a Jedi.
In "Mara Jade: By the Emperor's Hand", she was specifically described as "neither Light nor Dark".
If you use the logic that any Dark Side adept can be called a "Dark Jedi" (I only refer to those with Jedi training as any kind of "Jedi", myself) - then she could be called a "Grey Jedi" - but personally, I would call her what she was, an Emperor's Hand.

What were Mara's abilities, i mean could she use the force or a lightsabre?
I know that some hands could use one or the other.
Also could you class Ventress as a primitive form of Hand?

I think that Mara liked using the force more than a lightsaber. I dont think she used a lightsaber.

All Emperor's Hands could use the Force, and most are shown or referenced as using a lightsaber. Mara's original lightsaber was purple, but she lost that in conjunction with Luke's first lightsaber (the one of Anakin's that Obi-Wan took with him when leaving Mustafar) being recovered, and Luke gave her that to use for a while. Later, after she became a Jedi, she constructed her own lightsaber.

Interesting way of looking at it. Sidious used her as a pawn in much the same manner he treated his Hands. Officially in most texts she's considered a Dark Jedi (her original training was by a Jedi Master) or an aspiring Sith, but there are some interesting similarities.

Quite the opposite - Emperor Palpatine invested her with additional Force power (as he also did with his Dark Adepts in the Dark Empire trilogy), but she felt all of that leave when the Emperor died. As a result, she usually felt rather weak using the Force, and in some stories she feared that without Palpatine's support, even the most basic Force powers, such as the ability to even reach out with the Force to pull her lightsaber to her, would go away.
She was very good with a lightsaber, and even when she felt incompetant using her power over the Force, she was so adept wielding a lightsaber she had no problem going against Luke Skywalker. However, she did not like how much attention she received when brandishing a lightsaber, and usually kept hers hidden and used more mundane weapons whenever she was trying to be inconspicuous (which was most of the time).

I always kind of wondered why Mara Jade didn't try to kill Vader and be Sidious' apprentice. Or why Sidious didn't take Mara.

Mara is widely considered Palpatine's favorite Hand. I think at the time she would have been a worthy candidate, she was far too powerful. Palpatine was not stupid enough to risk his power by making her Sith but she was too smart to attempt to oust Vader who was still an extremely powerful Sith.

Mara began to hope that Vader would betray the Emperor so that she could kill him and take Vader's place as the Emperor's apprentice.

Wow, I can't help but see that as a classic example of how much inaccurate information can slip into Wikipedia and its incarnations.
I believe I've read all Mara Jade material prior to her becoming a Jedi (and a good chunk of it after that, but far from all of it). I've yet to see any indication that she had any real understanding of the Sith before the Battle of Endor with the death of Vader and apparent death of Palpatine. She knew that Palpatine was a powerful Force-user and everyone knew that Vader was "Lord of the Sith", but I doubt she even knew about Bane's Rule of Two, and may not have even made the connection that the Emperor was a Sith.
Another Emperor's Hand, Lumiya, certainly hoped that Vader would overthrow the Emperor and she could become the apprentice as his side, but I doubt that Mara Jade even understood that was even a possible situation.
