Republic Commando Novels *SPOILERS*Here we can dicuss the wonderful novels by Karen Traviss, of which I recently (today in fact) picked up Triple Zero, a stunning book of which I have only read 30 pages. The insight into the training behind the Commandos was amazing, and I look forward to the rest of the book.

ive read Hard Contact and im about to start Triple Zero, Hard Contct was a great book and is quite realistic to what life in a army unit is like (i know, i am/was a soldier). I hope Triple Zero is as good as Hard Contact

I did not enjoy these books as much as I could have. She is a good writer, but her pet clones are all but invincible. If she wanted them to have more realism, she should have changed a lot of things. Basically, four clones just wipe everything on a small planet. In Triple Zero, they do the same thing except with a large terrorist cell. It is almost rediculous how powerful and perfect they are. It would only happen in a book or movie, not real life. It is basically like having a bunch of Han Solo's fight.

The battledroids in Star Wars are meant to be morons, and the mercenaries from Hard Contact weren't model soldiers. Sure, it's not realistic, but neither is Mace jumping from a balcony on fire to simultanious fight a space rhino and rocket-man.
Triple Zero is on my 'To Buy' list, along with Dark Lord now that it's out in paper back. If Hard Contact is any indication it's garanteed to be a good book.

Is that any better then Bruce Willis' character in the Die Hard's? he basically takes out large amounts of terrorists by himself, but are those movies insulted? No, they were good because of the story, not the logistics.

I was just stating my opinion. If that is not wanted here, then I will not respond.

Your opinion is welcome. You find the books to be too unrealistic. I guess it'd be a shame if you payed for the books and found you didn't like them, but sometimes that can't be avoided.
I feel that (especially with Star Wars) you have to just let realism take the back seat while you enjoy the adventure. But, of course, that's just an opinion.

Trivas, I didn't say your opinion wasn't wanted, I merely offered my opinion.

Trivas you say the books are unrealistic to being a commando, well i found the books both very realistic to the real thing, as you know i have spent most of my adult life in a special forces platoon and therefore i am in a better position to argue that point, what dont you find realistic about it?

I found that the fact that all the commandos were perfect and almost never made a mistake (or if they did, it did not cost them anything). They seemed to know everything and do everything exactly as it was supposed to be done. It was like a group of Han Solos fighting, not vulnerable troops that could die. With the other SW characters, namely the Skywalker/Solo clan, they have the Force to give them the added invulnerability, the clones did not.
Also, I buy all the SW books and would have bought them even if I knew I would hate it. I have 106 currently and will keep collecting as long as they keep being written.
