Search for a Miraluka (roleplay, please read rules!)
This is a roleplay thread I am running, primarily 12-3 PM, PST on Sundays. I am the GM, and what I say, goes. No particular rules are being used for this, although I'm working on the D20 Project while running this, so when I'm not sure how to procede, I'll be rolling a 20-sided die, and going with its results.
The rules of this thread:
1. Unless you are approved to join in the Announcement thread, do not post. Your post will be deleted, and if you do it again, you'll get a nasty PM from me. You don't want to push it further than that.
If you want to make out-of-character comments about the action, whether you're a player or just watching, please use the Search for a Miraluka (comments) thread.
Right now, Duff, Seti and Vulpine are the only ones who should be posting.
2. Do not post twice in a row. If it is non-combat, you need to wait for someone else to reply before you can continue, and during game time, I would prefer to hear from everyone involved before the same person speaks up again - however, exceptions should be obvious, such as when there's a conversation between two people, the posts will simply alternate between those two. In combat, I will post the initiative order, and everyone gets to post in that order.
3. Do not attempt more than one "action" per post. If you are attempting something which is not an obvious automatic attempt, post the description of what you want to do, and I will reply with the results.
4. Try to avoid OOC comments. Seriously, most offhand comments can just as easily be made in-character as out-of-character, and don't need to be in parentheses - just have your character say what you were going to say yourself. If it is truly OOC, it belongs in the comments thread.
5. Be patient. I'm trying something fairly new here, and am trying to get it running as smoothly as possible. But sometimes it may take me a few minutes - don't rush me when I'm trying to do something right, rather than quickly.
If I need to change the rules at all, I will edit this post.
Now then, I would like the three confirmed players to speak up, and let me know they are here and ready to play.
-Scourge
Lord Seti
Darth Seti I entered. Glancing around for his comrades-in-arms...
Lord Scourge
Okay, I see Duff, Seti and Vulpine are all logged on. Please report to the mission room (post here).
-Scourge
Vulpine
Greetings Master, I am present in the thread.Thankyou for the phone#.
Lord Scourge
Err, yes, you have my comlink frequency, my apprentice.
(Keep OOC comments to a minimum, or phrase them in an in-character manner)
-Scourge
Darth Duff
Duff entered the breifing room and bowed infront of Scourge.
"I am here my Lord" Duff said
Lord Scourge
Excellent, you are all present.
As you all know, we are seeking a Miraluka to capture for some alchemical experiments. This is easier said than done. Miraluka are an incredible and unique species, who have no natural sight, and have developed Force sensitivity species-wide to see everything through the Force. Once they had the remnants of eyes, that when examined appeared to be completely clouded, but after millennia of evolution, the skin has even sealed over their ocular cavities leaving only the shape in their face where eyes once were.
Because the entire species is Force sensitive, Miralukas have long received attention from many quarters, that other species have not. They have had at least three homeworlds, all of which are devastated or destroyed. Two of these are known: Katarr was discovered by Darth Nihilus, four thousand years ago, and marked an important step in the development of that powerful Sith Lord. He had always followed the path of hunger, drawing the Force out of others into himself to increase his own power, and he finally reached the point where he could draw the Force out of more and more individuals, until he consumed the life from (almost) every being on Katarr. When this happened, he grew in power so much as to no longer be able to relate to lesser beings, and saw only other Sith Lords as peers he even bothered to communicate with. Today, Katarr has regrown a little, but is still sparse with life, and no one is known to live there. However, it may also be considered a safe refuge for some Miraluka, as very few people know where it is. It is only through extensive study that I have discovered its coordinates.
Their other homeworld which is known, is Alpherides. This is the best-known world associated with the species, and until relatively recently, the only place you could be certain of finding a Miraluka. However, the humanist policies of Palpatine’s New Order took a rather dim view of the Miraluka, especially with their history in the Jedi Order (almost every Miraluka that has shown more control over the Force than is standard in their species, has joined the Jedi). An entire fleet was assembled to address the Miraluka problem at Alpherides, but when it arrived, they found the planet nearly abadoned, with only a few stragglers remaining, and those unwilling to reveal information about the missing Miraluka. However, since the fall of the Empire, it is entirely possible that some Miraluka have chosen to reclaim this planet, which has long been their own publically-known "homeworld".
Another important world is Ruusan. The only famous Miraluka of our time, the Dark Jedi Master Jerec, attempted to increase his power immensely by tapping the relics and residual effects left on Ruusan, the planet where the Brotherhood of Darkness and the Jedi Army of Light were both destroyed, a thousand years ago. He was defeated, and the Jedi thought they have kept secret the location of this planet, that seethes with the Dark Side of the Force, and they would have, if we did not simply have records of that time.
The main reason why these worlds are good possibilities is simply because Miraluka have a tendency to be sentimental, and it may be possible to find one visiting a world that was once important to their species. They may be attempting to find out more about their own past, trying to find an artefact important to their people, or simply communing with an important place to learn more about themselves. The final world that I think could hold a Miraluka is for entirely different reasons...
The final world is Nar Shaddaa. This moon of the Hutt homeworld has become a reflection of Coruscant, an entirely urbanized world where anything can be found. Most of the commerce on Nar Shaddaa is barely legal, and would be illegal under the laws of anyone but the Hutts. As such, Nar Shaddaa is also one of the best places in the galaxy to get lost, so that no one will ever find you — or so people think. For the Sith, it can instead be a place to find those who wish to not be found, such as a Miraluka on the run. We know that many powerful Force adepts, Jedi, Sith, Miraluka and otherwise, have hidden on Nar Shaddaa in the past, and one or more may be hiding there now.
I leave it up to you to determine which world holds the most promise of finding one of these beings. Those with some skill at farsight may chose to see if they have a premonition of any particular world. Those who are already familiar with one of these worlds may offer some guidance or further information they think might help. Please, discuss amongst yourselves what you think is the best option.
-Scourge
(I know this is a lot to read, please wait for all three players to speak up with their initial opinion, indicating they've read the whole thing, before getting into an ongoing discussion)
Vulpine
Yes, Master.
Lord Seti
Seti met up with the others, bowing. "I am here."
Darth Duff
Duff drew a chair and a star map of all 4 of the planets Scourge had mentioned.
"We should first choose which plannet to search on then draw a battle plan or at least how to procede next" Duff suggested
Lord Seti
" It seems likely", Seti began, "that either Alpherides or Nar Shaddaa offer us our best opportunities for success."
Lord Scourge
Katarr and Alpherides are both Outer Rim worlds, not far from Sith space. Nar Shaddaa is a little further, but because it lies on important hyperspace trade routes, would take the least travel time. Ruusan is both furthest away and most isolated, and would take several days to reach.
[Seti and Vulpine, once you both post something in-character that you're ready to continue, this can become more chat-like.]
-Scourge
Vulpine
Vulpine Pulls another Chair.
"I Agree with lord Seti"
Lord Scourge
Well, either world holds promise, but the two are vastly different. On Alpherides, any signs of pollution or sentient beings would be instant clues, while Nar Shaddaa bustles with activity, but then will provide dozens of leads to follow.
[discuss away!]
Darth Duff
Yes they do seem to be the most likely places to find a Miraluka. But is this a good thing?
If they are the most likely places to find Miraluka then wouldn't Miraluka stay away from them?
Although Nar Shaddaa would be a good place to start.... Fastest to travel to and we can remain..... Inconspicious......
Lord Scourge
Yes, Nar Shaddaa is very different from the other three worlds. There will be dozens of possible leads, but the vast majority of them will be false ones. The other three worlds are presumably deserted - not that any lack in buildings or other structures, they have all been largely occupied at one time, so it may not be able to find someone at any of those worlds, since there are many places to hide.
Vulpine
An urban landscape such as Nar shadaa would provide a better environment to go reasonably unnoticed, but alphirides is mostly abandoned anyway and as Lord Scourge said any signs of life would be a dead giveaway.
Lord Scourge
Also, keep in mind what kind of toys you may find on these worlds. On Nar Shaddaa, it is possible to buy anything if you have the credits for it. But one of the main reasons a Miraluka might be visiting one of the other three worlds, may involve an interesting artefact hidden on an obscure planet.
Vulpine
That is true Master.
Lord Scourge
Hm, of course, I'm sure that makes the more deserted worlds sound more attractive to you, my Apprentice, given how many credits you currently have to your name... do not worry, however, about spending those credits on anything but just such a toy, if you do go to Nar Shaddaa. If the three of you go there, you will have plenty of credits for the group, as simply travelling, eating and finding a little information at a cantina is expensive there.
Darth Duff
Yes but the mission is in search of a Miraluka, not artifacts..... This will only hinder our search....
You stated you wanted a Miraluka to study i believe that the best bet would be to find one on Nar Shaddaa first and persudade him to relveal or help us find more Miraluka for us to examine using there unique powers as you said more than one would be ideal....
Lord Scourge
Come now, Duff, if you choose to go to Nar Shaddaa, it will be the first time my Apprentice has a chance to explore an urban setting like that. He was raised on the primitive backworld of Dathomir, and he left there for a life of training in a Temple. A large part of the reason to send him on this mission is to let him see another part of the galaxy. If he wants to buy a weapon or gadget on Nar Shaddaa, or has a chance to explore some ruined temple on a deserted world, certainly give some time for that.
The search is for a Miraluka, true, but the mission is also for the training and edification of those who need to develop their skills and powers. As the highest-ranking Sith on this assignment so far, I hope you will help develop the skills of those less experienced than yourself.
Besides, you never know where you will find the lead that takes you to a Miraluka...
[GM: Seti has PM'ed that his internet connection has been dropping, so don't worry if you don't see much from him right now. Minious has posted in the announcement that he would like to join (he had expressed interest in the original planning thread), and if he wishes to come along as an advisor, he may arrive at the mission briefing]
Darth Duff
My idea was not to limit our search to one setting. We would first visit Nar Shaddaa to find a Miraluka then use him to find others on other worlds....
This would leave the chance for the explorations of more than one type of world as well as try to further our knowledge if we sumbole across any aritfacts on the desolate worlds that we visit....
As for the development of skills, i shall do my best to do this with the sith on the mission but i also realize that the mission comes first.... if the mission requires me to sacrifice training at any time i will, just as easily as i would sacrifce my life for the mission....
I shall be happy with any planet we decide to start at...
Vulpine
I may be a sith but i am still a child
Lord Scourge
Well, that is one reason I was hoping someone might have a premonition of farsight, to help determine the best world to visit. I certainly hope that the Force is with you, to find a Miraluka on the first world you visit.
If you find only one Miraluka, I would prefer if you bring it back before trying to use it as bait to catch more. Once Basidyus has taken some samples, it would not be as inadvisible to risk losing one to obtain more speciments to study.
Darth Duff
Yes very well, then firstly a decision on were to travel to first, then how to travel etc.....
Lord Scourge
Oh, you can use my courier ship, the Incisor. It is fast enough, and innocuous on most worlds.
As Seti has stepped away for a few minutes, if either of you wish to take some time, and meditate on these worlds [ie, do some quick online research] and see if one particular world feels promising to you, it may be our best answer for where to start.
[It is up to the players regarding which world they want to go to - and since neither Seti nor Minious are here, it is up to you two.]
Vulpine
I am willing to reasearch on Nar Shadaa.
Lord Scourge
That is certainly the one with the most information about it - you could write full descriptions about everything we know on Ruusan, Katarr and Alpherides, and it would be shorter than a typical guide book for Nar Shaddaa.
You have your work cut out for you.
Vulpine
When should I have it ready, Master?
Lord Scourge
As quickly as possible - meditate on Nar Shaddaa, and what you can see there [ie, search Wikipedia, or read a few synapses of stories that take place on Nar Shaddaa in SWTG, the find feature in Acrobat is wonderful] - then tell us of what you have seen there, and if you foresee finding a Miraluka in its environs.
If you cannot see any sign of a Miraluka there, it sounds as though Alpherides is the next most favored choice.
Darth Duff
Doing some research on Miraluka and in particular the worlds of Alpheridies and Katarr. I came across a former empress hand, Jerec who was born on Alpheridies this could lead to some info on the hands which may be interesting while still in search of a miraluka....
Lord Scourge
Interesting, Duff, you found something indicating that Jerec may have been trained by our Empress, herself?
All I have found on him thus far was that he was a Jedi Master who was captured rather than killed during the Jedi Purge, and became one of Palpatine's Inquisitors. It is Jerec's fixation on Ruusan so recently, that is the only reason why I considered that world. While Alpherides is far more well-known for its association with the Miraluka, it was abandoned after Jerec left to become a Jedi. However, he was at Ruusan only a few years ago.
The Jedi Kyle Katarn is known to have destroyed Jerec at Ruusan, but the Jedi Council has been quite tight-lipped about what happened there, or the location of the planet itself. We have little information about the former, but never lost our records of its coordinates, and can find it easily enough. And of course, we have far more information about the Battle of Ruusan than the Jedi could ever hope to accumulate.
Darth Duff
Yes i also saw russan as a possible world as he was fixated by it..... Yet i believe only for the power....
I was doing some background research on Nar shaddaa and found that it was recently destroyed by the Yuuzhan Vong.... I was wondering whether it had recovered since or even if any Miraluka would be left there?
Vulpine
Would tomorrow be adequate, provided Nar Shadaa recovered?
Lord Scourge
I'm not sure I believe every rumor I've heard about another planet desroyed by the Vong. Are you certain it was destroyed? The only report I could find of this destruction was from a notoriously inconsistent source, who could not even provide a particular date, or circumstances of the battle.
Vulpine, I hope to decide where the mission is headed before the briefing is over today - so, no, you do not have the time to meditate on this overnight.
[I've gone through several documented lists which say planets were destroyed by the Vong, and when/what book. All I could find that said Nar Shaddaa got Vong'd out of existence was Wikipedia, and it doesn't give a date or source of when this happened. If you or anyone else can tell me in which NJO book it was destroyed, I'll forget that one, otherwise I'm considering Wikipedia's info on this just an internet rumor. However, I can understand going to Alpherides instead, simply to make it a non-issue.]
Darth Duff
I cant give any sources so i shall just treat it as a holovid rumor....
the last few paragraphs might be useful but it's all very interesting, more later.
Lord Scourge
Excellent work, Apprentice! When I followed your investigation, it does appear that there has been references to the Vong invasion of Nal Hutta, and indirectly, Nar Shaddaa [Balance Point refers to the invasion of Nal Hutta, and there's speculation it was described fully in a cancelled novel]. It seems your source was right all along, Duff.
It sounds as though the group of you would favor Alpherides as the best other choice?
Vulpine
It would seem that way Master, Alpherides seems best.
Darth Duff
Yes i agree with this, then it is settled Alpherides it is...
Now earlier Scourge stated we could use his ship the Incisor. Does this mean we will travel together?
Also what equiptment will we be travelling with...
Lord Scourge
Yes, you shall travel together.
Well, Duff, unless a more senior Sith shows up at the last minute, you will be leading this mission. I shall equip the ship with supplies for Alpherides while you gather what you wish to take for yourself on this mission.
Vulpine
Sounds like a plan.
Darth Duff
I believe we will need to take as little supplys as possible.....
Only lightsabers needed as weapons, if any siege weapons are needed to attack fortresses then we can call for them....
Also in terms of equiptment just robes needed, used if possible... we need not overly display wealth incase of any ..... incidents.
Then any personal items each sith wishes to take, they will be declared before boarding the ship to eliminate any surprises....
We shall discuss our battle plans during the travel to Alpherides.
Lord Scourge
[GM: Until next Sunday at noon, this thread will be mostly domant. Duff, Seti and Vulpine can write side stories of what happens in the hour or so between the briefing and leaving on the mission. All three of you can post personal supplies you expect to be able to carry for yourself - you can be as gamer-boy detailed, or as simple and straight-forward as you like. Duff has the most opportunity to have toys, Seti next, and Vulpine only gets what I give him. If something is inappropriate, we'll figure it out before we start next week.
Any other posts will be deleted.
Anyone else can still join, but first they must get approved by me in the announcement thread. Then, they can come running up to the ship before it leaves, next Sunday just before 12:00 noon, PST.]
Darth Duff
Duff left the briefing feeling satisfied.
he decided to meditate in his coliseum before reviewing different strategies for the search of Alpherides. He also wanted to review the planet in a whole....
Duff knew the mission would not be easy but he enjoyed a challenge.
Vulpine
Vulpine is also saisfied and is eager to begin the mission.
Lord Seti
Darth Seti I enters in a huff. Too many technical problems in the worlds, he mused silently. Security perimeters go down & those morons can't get it back online. Two hours later,he smiled, and the amateur had it back up. They're probably still scratching their numb skulls over that one.
After speaking with Lord Scourge briefly, Seti began reviewing the files on the Mission. This should prove to be interesting. Yeah, as long as it wasn't interesting like a case of FNV-23, Seti speculated, things should go alright.
After digesting the information Seti knew what he was going to do. There are magical meditations for determining where a certain species might be found on a planet.
Lord Seti
Darth Seti I opened his eyes from his meditation. He would have to pass this information from his meditation on to Lord Scourge. Seti knew the situation could be different on the planet's surface. At least he knew it wasn't a wild bantha chase. Then again, visions can be wrong. As Seti waited for the others, he pulled out his shoulder bag & went over his personal list of items.
Vials:
1. Bavo Six concentrate
2. Glie Poison
3. Savorium
Lord Scourge was waiting in the central holocron room, and chuckled at Darth Seti's information.
"Different on the planet's surface? Yes, things could be very different..."
Seti's eyebrow raised at the cryptic remark.
"Don't worry, I'll cover all the information I have on Alpheridies for you when Duff and Vulpine arrive..."
[Note #1: Duff, Vulpine, please post of your arrivals at the holocron room.]
[Note #2: the previous spelling I gave of Alpherides is incorrect, it should be Alpheridies]
-Scourge
Lord Seti
"I have this feeling that there is probably quite a bit of information that I just don't want to know." Seti grins.
Vulpine
Vulpine enters, "where is Lord duff?"
Lord Scourge
[GM Note - sorry, I kept reloading page 2, not seeing we were onto a third page... Duff isn't logged in yet, I've sent him an email. At this point, I'm ready to act as though his character is here in the room, and when he shows up, he can start roleplaying. Now, onto the game...]
Lord Scourge
An hour after the mission briefing, the three Sith reported to the Holocron Room, where Scourge was waiting for them.
The Sith Lord began speaking the moment all three were in the room, in the manner of one used to silence from others when he was talking.
—You will be travelling to the planet Alpheridies, in the Abron system.
When it was first discovered, more than twenty thousand years ago, Alpheridies was considered to be well within the Unknown Regions, isolated far from any known hyperspace lane. However, as galactic exploration has opened up more routes and the Unknown Regions have become ever smaller, this is no longer the case. This world is now placed on the outer edge of one of the several Expansion Regions that were developed under corporate direction, located not far from an established trade route. This does not mean it is visited any more frequently today.
Alpheridies lies just within a vast nebular cloud called The Veil. The composition of The Veil is such that all sensor and communication frequencies are heavily blocked. Once you enter The Veil, you cannot contact anyone in the rest of the galaxy, and you will not be able to use normal navigational sensors. You will only be able to guide your ship visually, and by the Force. You will need to take turns looking through the Force, as being inside The Veil is visually similar to being within a thick fog. [GM note - Force Sight costs 2 vitality points for every minute of steady use.] However, flying without sensors is only a warm-up compared to what awaits you on the planet’s surface.
Elsewhere within The Veil, particularly bright stars make open patches where sight and sensors are closer to normal space. This is not the case for Aber, the red dwarf star of the Abron system. Because this star does not produce enough visual light to overcome the density of The Veil, it can provide the heat and radiation of any other dwarf star, but no light reaches the orbiting planets.
Alpheridies is a small, quickly moving planet in a close orbit to a star that barely provides enough heat and radiation to produce any biozone at all. All life has evolved to survive and excel without light. This does not mean light cannot be generated, but unless it produces heat or radiation, the plants and animals are not likely to notice. However, The Veil still exists on the surface, so light only travels as well as it would in heavy fog. Communications are similar dampened on the planet, and comlinks will have a fraction of their normal range.
While power sources will stand out as an obvious sign of sentient beings, the same cannot be said of heat, ionization, or buildings and other structures. Alpheridies has as much life as you might expect of any planet that size, with nearly a third of its surface covered by two connected seas. It was occupied steadily for at least twenty thousand years, and was abandoned by the Miraluka less than fifty years ago. While it does not have the levels of atmospheric ionization you would find on other worlds with similar histories, it has its share. The ion exhaust of a spaceship will not be an obvious trail across the sky the way it would on a world untouched by technology. Similarly, the Miraluka did not damage anything in their leaving, they simply packed up everything and left for another world. While small, this is a fully developed world that was simply abandoned rather than be a target for the Galactic Empire.
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not mention an ancient rumor. According to legend, Alpheridies was first discovered by a blind warlord of the Ancient Sith Empire, who because of the planet’s qualities, built a private temple there, hidden deep in an underground cavern. According to the Miraluka, this was not found by them at any time in their history on Alpheridies. Whether the legend is true, and whether the Miraluka have told the truth about not finding the temple, is unknown. Be that as it may, I would be quite interested if you discovered such an archeological site.
Now, a few toys I have for you three to play with...
Because seeing only through the Force is exhausting for one who does not spend their life doing so, the way a Miraluka does, you are each getting a set of snooper goggles. These take information from low-light and infrared scans to provide a heads-up display that shows heat and power sources on top of a light-enhanced view. Be careful with the delicate electronics, as they are powered devices and won’t work if they receive electrical or ion damage.
I also had the weapons lab manufacture three of these flash globes. Normally they are used to blind one’s opponents, as each one simply opens up after being thrown through the air for six or seven meters, and becomes a cloud of luminescent dust, each speck as bright as a magensium flare. The dust burns itself out after a minute, but a minute can be a very long time. Also, if it is windy, the cloud will dispurse more quickly.
Don’t worry about the idea that you might get blinded by these, though. The snooper goggles have flash protection, as you’re not actually viewing the environment, you’re viewing a holographic display. If you’re not wearing your goggles, the data I have on the light-inhibiting properties of The Veil indicate that if you toss the globe at least four or five meters away, you’ll simply have the effect of a sunny day cutting through the fog for a minute. Of course, going from darkness to sunny day will take a moment for your eyes to adjust, but for the rest of that minute, you would be able to see normally. Darth Duff, as an Empress’ Hand, I believe you are one of the few in the Empire who has actually used these before.
Darth Seti, of all those going on this mission, you have the best aptitude for languages, but even you do not speak the Miraluka tongue. Therefore, for this mission I am giving you use of this translation talisman, that when worn allows comprehension of any language spoken or written. I expect it to be returned in the same condition it is now.
Vulpine, my apprentice, you are at a disadvantage here on this mission, next to these two. While you are far from helpless, both of them are adept in dueling with two lightsabers, Seti’s even being of the classic Makashi design used by Darth Tyranus. As such, I am allowing you to carry this energy talisman. While worn, you will be able to absorb energy from an attack, if you are capable of channeling that energy into you through the Force. This is fairly easy with blaster fire or ion bursts, rather difficult with Force Lightning, and I wouldn’t recommend trying to absorb a lightsaber attack as you’re still far more likely to lose a limb. This is the most valuable item any of you are carrying other than your lightsabers, and I will be most displeased if it is damaged.
Now come this way, my ship is waiting on a private landing pad...
Lord Seti
Seti grabs his shoulder bag and heads towards the ship. Yeah, planet surface is going to be fun, Seti thought almost aloud.
Lord Scourge
It was hard enough to follow Scourge through well lit corridors, but walking through shadowed hallways and stacks of ancients books and scrolls, it was nearly impossible to see him.
Once the three started to look at each other for a clue of where to go, Scourge's voice echoed from a back chamber, "Come along, the way to my ship is through the offices!"
Vulpine
Vulpine runs through the offices, panting.
Lord Seti
Seti followed. He could smell the scent of old scrolls and books. He loved this virtual incense of time & history. He sensed where Lord Scourge was headed and continued.
Lord Scourge
Once he noticed the other Sith catching up, Scourge pressed a button, and a door opened to a landing pad connected directly to the back office of the library. As the three stepped out onto the rain-dampened ramp leading to the ship, they suddenly noticed Scourge had disappeared, and the door back inside was closing. Looking at the ship, Duff and Seti were suddenly glad they were going to an abandoned world, and not the metropolis that Nar Shaddaa had been.
The Incisor was one of the most evil-looking ships they had ever seen. It was reminiscent of Darth Maul’s Infiltrator, but a bit larger, probably fifty meters long in total. Clearly designed by Sienar at the height of the the Galactic Empire, the wings were based on the design of the TIE Interceptor, but when scaled up to a ship that size, even Duff was surprised it was possible to fit turbolasers onto such a small frame. Then the Hand’s eyes widened further when he realized that the frame for the wings was in fact a single battery of four turbolaser cannons, and this tiny courier would be capable of damaging capital ships.
Seti took one look at the esthetics and turned to Vulpine, “Where does Scourge travel, that he thinks this is nicely inconspicuous?”
The apprentice shrugged, “Most of the space travel to Dathomir was for the Imperial prison camp, and after Master left our homeworld, he studied with...” Vulpine paused, clearly not wishing to divulge his mentor’s secrets, then continued without missing a beat. “...with former members of Imperial Intelligence. Since then, he has lived at the Sith Temple.”
Seti eyed the young apprentice for a moment, then continued down the ramp. “I suppose it doesn’t matter how conspicuous the ship is, when we’re going to a planet without light,” he sighed.
Lord Seti
"Sure glad they wont see this coming." Seti laughed.
"Vulpine, you travel on it before?"
Vulpine
Vulpine laughed with lord Seti.
[GM edit] "Yes, it's the only spaceship I've ever flown in."
Lord Seti
"Well we might as well board this demon-ship & find out what she's got, eh?"
Lord Scourge
[GM: Okay, it's fairly annoying that Duff is not here yet, but at this point Seti & Vulpine should continue as if the character of Duff is with them. Duff's the best pilot of the three, and Seti would be best for running the computer systems, with Vulpine learning in fascination - having come from a primitive world, he's still not comfortable with computer systems and has a certain amount of wonder towards them.
The next little bit is just the two of you (and Duff) taking off and flying the Incisor through hyperspace - that part of the trip only takes a few hours.]
Vulpine
"This is quite fascinating"
Lord Seti
Seti enters the ship speaking with Master Duff.
"I take computer navigation for what good it'll do us once we hit the Veil. What do you think?"
Duff laughed. "NO problem, piece of cake."
Seti sits behind main computer and motions to Vulpine.
"Keep an eye on what I.m doing-might help you later on."
Duff engages the demon drive and suddenly Seti looks back at the dissappearing planet.
"Hey I was getting used to being on the ground."
Lord Scourge
[Okay, I see Duff has logged in - Seti & Vulpine, please continue to interact, but we're also waiting for Duff to make a post indicating that he is caught up.]
Vulpine
Vulpine watches closely as Seti goes from one system to another.
Lord Seti
Seti notices extra computer systems.
"Damn! Scourge has backup systems to his backup systems."
Seti starts laughing.
"One of these programs is actually written in archaic Sith. I like that."
Vulpine
"What's the problem?"
Lord Scourge
A pleasing female voice came from a speaker near the navicomputer, in an elegant dialect of the Sith language.
"You appear to be charting a course to the Abron system. Do you require assistance in navigating or piloting the Incisor?"
Lord Seti
"Yeah, lets do this the easy way. Lay in a course heading for Alpherides. Maximium efficiency coordinates. Navigation only."
Lord Scourge
"Hyperspace coordinates entered. Approximate flight time: six minutes to leave Kropulu gravity well and enter hyperspace. Three hours, thirty-four minutes hyperspace travel to enter realspace at closest possible point to The Veil. Unknown time at sublight travel to reach Alpheridies."
Darth Duff
Duff examined the flight system and decided it was the time to declare what they had brought with them
[[Sorry for being late, i had to do an extra shift at work]]
Lord Seti
" Hyperdrive course laid in. IF Master Duff wants to have his hands free, you will offer him that option at his station Although he'll refuse, ask him in Basic."
Lord Scourge
[Duff - Understandable, but I have everyone's equipment list. If you're caught up on the thread, go ahead and fly the ship.]
The voice continued, "I am sorry, but as a basic security measure, I am not programmed to speak in other languages besides this dialect of Sith. If my records are correct, all members of this flight crew are fluent in Sith, so I do not foresee a problem. Currently I cannot provide automatic control of the piloting, as I am programmed to release automatic control whenever manual control is asserted, which is currently the case."
Duff just smiled, flying a ship with this much speed and acceleration was a rarity.
Lord Seti
"Verified on language."
Seti opens his comm.
"Master Duff, how's the Demon flying?"
Darth Duff
Duff has a baisc understanding of the controls, even though he has never flew this actual ship before the controls are more or less the same....
Duff signals fairwell to Scourge and engages the engines, a slow humming noise could be heard and then disappeared, the ship was as silent as Scourge had indicated...
The course was set in as the ship slowly lifted off from the temple....
Lord Seti
Seti heard the smooth transition.
"Silent running. Nice."
With Navi-computer on:
"Give me a full tactical listing of ship firepower and defensive systems."
Vulpine
"Very nice"
Lord Scourge
Within minutes, the ship was to the edge of the system, and a light came on indicating it was safe to jump to hyperspace.
[GM note: Duff, you have the piloting skill of a typical member of Nightwing Squadron, and the controls of this ship are Imperial standard.]
Lord Seti
"Master Duff, hyperdrive is at your local command." Seti engages release on the navi-computer.
Darth Duff
Before Duff made the jump to hyperspace he wanted to make sure everyone was prepped...
"Is everybody ready for the Jump?" Duff asked
Lord Seti
"Ready to up chuck at your command, sir."
Vulpine
"I'm also ready"
Darth Duff
"Then lets go" Duff announced
Duff surveyed the system and made the Jump, a slight jerk and they were outbound...
"This ship is truly advanced" Duff thought
Duff left the cockpit as the route was automatic, he strolled into the rec room and sat on a nearbye chair.
Lord Scourge
After taking hyperspace routes for 99% of the distance from Koprulu to Alpheridies in a matter of hours, the lanes ended a “mere” hundredth of a lightyear from The Veil, roughly 95 trillion miles at sublight speeds. Five days later, the Incisor reached the nebular cloud.
Piloting the ship, Duff pointed to the number of red dwarf stars and turned to Seti, “which one is Aber?”
Seti checked the navigational charts and looked up, “None of them. We won’t be able to see it until we’re almost on top of it. Fly straight ahead, into the thickest part of The Veil. I’ve entered the last known coordinates of Aber into the computer, just head in that general direction. Once we find the star itself, we’re just going to have to fly around it looking for Alpheridies through the Force.”
Duff rolled his eyes at how this mission was turning out, and plunged the ship directly into cloud.
[Incidentally, since we got going a little late today, what do each of you think of running a half-hour extra, until 3:30 PST / 5:30 CST / 11:30 Europe? Just include an OOC in one of your posts indicating if you’re up for it. And personally, I'd rather not roleplay five days of slack time on the ship - if there's a particular scene you'd like to have in those five days, let me know, maybe we can cover it between game sessions.]
Lord Seti
(OOC: No problem.)
"Well heres to running blind." Seti scanned over the visual readouts.
Darth Duff
Duff was amazed at the journey time, he had arrived near Alpheridies and it seemed he only left the temple 5 minutes ago...
((((OCC Both are fine with me))))
Vulpine
"that was...fast"
[OOC, I am up to playing 'til 3:30]
Lord Seti
"And there goes the navigational sensors. You are on sight only Master Duff."
Lord Scourge
After a few hours of blind travel, the ship reached a red dwarf star about where Alpherides should be, but no planets could be seen through the fog of The Veil.
Darth Duff
Duff asked the sith to meet with him in the cockpit....
"Im switching off the engines, the less noise in the force the easier it will be to find the planet, all that will be online will be the life support" Duff explained
"Now we shall focus, Vulpine use your eyes if you will, I dont want any surprises, even in the dead of space. Seti you meditate, together we shall find this planet" Duff continued
Vulpine
"Yes, Lord Duff"
Lord Scourge
Deciding to use a group attempt at farsight instead of simply gazing around through the Force while flying in circles, Duff realized that Seti had the greatest aptitude with this skill, and he and Vulpine aided in the attempt.
[Seti, with Duff and Vulpine's help, you can use Farseeing to find something that is far away, but in the present (actually the easiest use of Farseeing), and see where Alpheridies is in relation to yourself.]
Lord Seti
Seti joined them in the cockpit, & began the search for this elusive planet, reaching out through the Force. Opening his mind Seti saw the planet appear before his inner eye. Seti opened his eyes, "There." Pointing 90 deg. right of the ships projected path.
Darth Duff
"Well done Seti" Duff remarked
Then we shall head towards the planet, Duff switched all the systems back on, Set the course for 90 deg and headed towards the planet...
Lord Scourge
Within a few minutes, Alpherides glowed before all of them, its presence in the Force unmistakable. As the ship began to orbit the planet, and Seti scanned for major life signs, heat sources and power signatures, the reality of the situation became somewhat depressing.
Alpheridies still appeared abandoned. Most lifesigns were away from the few cities that dotted the planet, and the strongest heat sources were geological. The handful of power signatures were so faint that they could just as easily be centuries-old security systems still intact, as a spaceship cooling in a hangar. After more than an hour of scanning the small planet, the three of them had only found twelve such power sources.
The most likely place to start appeared to be largest city, or what was once the largest city, if for no other reason than because almost half of the remaining sources of power were within its structures.
Lord Seti
Seti marked the course on the Computer log. Smiling, "Master Duff, the last coordinates seem promising. What do you think?"
Darth Duff
"Yes the major city seems the most logical place to start" Duff remarked.
"I'll fly us in" Duff continued
The decent was quick as the ship sailed to the planet floor, on to an abandoned space port...
Lord Scourge
As the Incisor flew in towards the city, Duff finding an old spaceport to land in, Seti managed to pick up another dozen minor power sources and other heat signatures, but few life signs, within the scope of this city. There were a number of power systems still running, but whether they were buildings or ships was anyone’s guess.
