Splinter of the minds eye

this is the first EU book ever made and I heard it was the worst, true?
Darth Acrimonus

I've heard "The Crystal Star" was the worst. In the end it's all just a matter of opinion.
Darth Acheron

This is no way the worst. Given the material the writer had to work with, this is a great book. Planet of Twilight, Crystal Star and Children of the jedi, on the other hand, had all the info from all 3 OT movies and sucked.

that's probably cause it was made a year after ANH

On a book buying exhibition for school I saw it and plucked it off the shelf, sped it through processing and rented it, and read it all the way through, skipping no bits (Which is more then I can say for Before the Storm, I just COULDN'T read it) I thought it was good except for the fact that he assumed Luke and Leia would become an item. Still, I'd rate it 2.5/5 for a Star Wars book, and 5/5 for a Star Wars story written with only one movie worth of materiel.

Well, from what we saw in The Empire Strikes Back, it seemed even Mr. Lucas was not dismissing the possibility they could have been an item. Or, at least, that Luke wanted them to be.

Lol. Very HappyVery Happy
Emperor Shadow

I didn't like it... I mean, Luke Skywalker... in the mud... with his sister? Eewie.
Darth Acheron

I still think it was an ok read, and I think it was even referenced in ESB, when Obi says he can't help Luke this time.
Emperor Shadow

I'd have to think about that one- but good thinking.
Darth Acheron

And I think in RotJ, the fact that Vader has an artificial right arm was originally referencing the arm Luke cut off in Splinter. Lucas then changed it of course, but that was its original meaning.
Emperor Shadow

It is a good theory. I happen to dislike it because what Foster tried to do with Luke and Leia.
Darth Acheron

Yeah, thats the only bad thing, lol. Very Happy
Emperor Shadow

I guess we can agree on that.
Darth Acheron

Yeah, Very Happy.
Lord Scourge

I can't agree that it's the only bad thing about Splinter - that book compares with some of the worst characterizations of the main characters - hideous story ideas, it's amazingly even worse than the writing Foster did in the novelization of Star Wars (which I find a difficult read even just scanning for information) - Foster is one of the epitomies of why I don't like modern novel writing, because his prose is just so awful.

He wrote that Approaching Storm novel as well though.

Also, it says Leia can't swim, yet, in a comic taking place soon after or before, she is a great swimmer, and it mentions her having swum on Alderaan as a child. (The Heart of the rebellion if anyone is wondering, the TPB)
