Vector Prime

As well as that NJO thread, this is for Vector Prme. I think it was great, with an excellent set up to an excellent series.

i was shocked though, about Chewbacca's death.
Lady Actir

I had been told Chewbacca died on the NJO, but didn't know when. I was like , "what, already?!"

I don't miss him, though. I like it when the good guys die Twisted Evil
Darth Acheron

Yeah, it makes it seem so much more real, then if the good guys never get killed.

I brought this up because I just got the book yesterday, though I have already read it ages ago.
Darth Acheron

I just started reading it again, and realise how different it is from previous written material in the NR era. It even goes so far as to have to invent its own story lines that take place prior to this book to make the gap between this and Young Jedi knight less obvious.

This book is well written and is an enjoyable start to a thrilling series.
Darth Lanik

ya it was AWSOME
Lord Legacy

books

that series was fantastic
Trivas

I will have to disagree with all of you. Vector Prime was one of the worst SW books written. The style was poor, the characters were not the way they were supposed to be, and the background was extremely off. Also, the guy who wrote it had NEVER read a single SW book prior to writing that book. All he had was people telling him about the books.

I do not like much anything about this book. It was very poorly written and the plot was not very enrapturing. Also, the guy was just going off of what the other authors started. While he was writing that book, Anderson was already writing his two and other authors were forming outlines.
Emperor Shadow

How have I missed this? Blah, I hated it as well. Chewbacca's death was just... wrong.
Sovereign Defender Tarna

It's a shame Solo couldn't watch his overgrown furball of a friend die. It wouldv'e brought him pain and suffering. Thats life: pain, suffering, and juma juice.
High Commander Vexen

I personally never read it but I will have to agree with Shadow and Trivas because well the advice they give is usually better
Emperor Shadow

I greatly enjoy NJO as a whole but hated Vector Prime. But if you are to read NJO, Vexen, start with the beginning.
High Commander Vexen

okay
Darth Acheron

Vexen, so much recently, you have agreed with peopel because of the people they are, not because of what they are actually saying. Grow a spine and come up with your own opinions and tyhe like, and stop being a lap dog. Sorry, but that had to be said.

Darth Acrimonus

I haven't read Vector Prime, I started the NJO with Rebel Stand/Rebel Dream. I found the self contained stories enjoyable without reading the entire series in order.

However, with Chewbacca being my favourite Star Wars character, I must one day bring myself to read this. It'll hurt, but I simply have to read his death for myself. Embarassed
Darth Acheron

Well, despite Shadow and Trivas' opinion, I still think this was enjoyable, though I do agree that he was the one to change Jacen and Jaina from the animal loving, joke telling and mechanic respectively that they were into somthing else.
Darth Acrimonus

I think Jaina and Jacen had to change. How many people are the exactly the same person as an adult as they were as a child? Jacen still showed a knack for relating to animals, such as those used by the Yuuzhan Vong, and as a fighter pilot Jaina is still showing her similarities to her father.
Darth Acheron

True, but there was only a five year gap between the two series, and I doubt Jacen could have changed that much, unless something happened in between... hmm..
Scion

I read the book and thought it was a great set up to the whole series, but now I've gotten as far as Dark Tide II: Ruin, and my favorite characters are Corran Horn(even though he leaves) and Jacen, who(without ever reading this prior) is very similar to my character in viewpionts anyways.

Vector Prime wasn't that great of a novel though, it didn't really climax and the best part was the Yuuzhan Vong killing off the research facility.

And I also didn't like it becuase the man totally ruined Mara Jade's character, she seems so much softer now, almost like Leia.
Trivas

True. The entire story did not fit with the rest. It killed off so much of what countless authors tried to develop the characters into.

Also, Scion, Corran Horn comes back.

It was not entirely a hopeless book, they did have some interesting aspects, but as a whole, it was not that great of a book. I would still rate it above the Dark Nest Trilogy......
