Bastion Meeting

Sovereign Defender Tarna

Dark Lord Tarna stood in the observation level of the Bastion Imperial Palace. His official Grand Moff's residence is on Kuat, but he had a private residence on Bastion and maintained a small office in the Bastion Palace. The palace was primarily for use of the local government and the governor, but as Head of State of the planet, he had some usage rights.

He sipped the water from a glass and looked out over the city below to see the green expanse of the forest outside. He smiled, because he loved the fact that there was still natural beauty here.

The smaller Gladiator-Class Star Destroyer exited hyperspace near the planet of Bastion. It had only traveled a short journey from Yaga Minor. Every since the Military Annexation of the Imperial Remnant space, Bastion had been one of the only planets left relatively untouched by the full extent of martial law.

The craft was quickly passed through the security and defense structures when it broadcasted a 30 second message that featured the Supreme Commander ordering his way through.

He quickly moved from Destroyer to a Svelte-Class Shuttle, modified of course, for his journey down to the planet's surface. While the Star Destroy was technically capable of making surface landings, it would incite the population with a fear that was unnecessary.

The shuttle headed towards the Bastion Palace, where the Supreme Commander was to meet with the Shadow Protector. Landing on the hangar pad outside of the palace, the Supreme Commander awaited a guide. He had been trying to lose his nature of just going, and actually try to be more civil lately.

Tarna swirled the water in his glass when his aide came in, "My lord, the Supreme Commander is here and he's waiting on the landing pad." Tarna smirked, "Let's go greet him."

Moments later, the Dark Lord walked out to personally greet his guest. The wind blew his hair and robes as he walked towards the younger Sith. "Supreme Commander, good to see you!" he said and held out his hand.

"Shadow Protector Tarna, it has been too long." The Supreme Commander returned, firmly shaking the Dark Lord's hand. The two had never been as friendly as Tarna and Praxeum, but Tarna had been one of the few Sith Markaro Vos had ever counted as something close to a friend.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" Marix asked, referring to the planet's night line. Unlike the bustling planets of Coruscant or Kuat, Bastion was relatively quiet and had a beautiful starlit sky. "Space has always intrigued me." He went on, "As you might have been able to tell, I joined the Navy just to be among the stars."

Tarna looked up at the stars. Some would vanish for a moment and then re-appear as Star Destroyers passed in front of them. This created a fascinating light show. "Yes, they're gorgeous. Sometimes the immensity of it all is astonishing." He took one last look and then sighed, "Well, we didn't come all the way here for stargazing, did we?"

"No we did not. How about we go inside to do the talking?" The Supreme Commander replied, tearing his gaze from the nightsky.

"Yes, yes, sure." Tarna and Marix walked back into the viewing lounge and sat in the large comfy armchairs. He ordered another water and then turned to Marix, "So...business."

Supreme Commander Alor

The Supreme Commander saw the water, and waved at the aide, gesturing he would like one as well.

"Business, to be straight to the point, is about the 22nd Fleet. The Royal Guard has had it for almost a year now. While you have done nothing to warrant it being taken away, I would like to, for the sake of being organized and well thought out, reassess your needs and use of the fleet."

Marix took a sip from the water the aide had brought him, and then continued.

"So if you have any complaints on the fleet, such as ships needing repairs and whatnot, I'd like to hear them now, before we get into the reassessment."

Tarna thought for a moment and then said, "I think we had one shuttle that never started up right, but that's about it. Besides, the mechanics enjoy tinkering around with it so you might as well leave it." he said with a smile. "Now, as for use, I still think we can use this fleet. We have a couple of prisoners being questioned there before we hand them off to the Inquisitors and they basically lose any information they might have had. It's also proved valuable once or twice for the Emperor to travel discreetly."

"That is good. The shuttle can stay to be tinkered with, but a replacement shall be sent over, for functionality."

Switching files on his data-pad, Markaro continued. "Have you used the ships in any combat situations?"

"Twice. First time, some pirates attacked a government freighter and the High Protector was scouting out areas for new bases when he heard the distress call and responded. And then a second time when we had to put down a tiny insurgency on Tatooine. They had maybe four starfighters and a small frigate, so it was easy pickings for the Destroyers." Tarna paused and took a sip of water. "I can't think of any other times...unless you count using the orbital cannons to clear some trees on Yavin IV." Marix stared, looking confused, so Tarna explained, "We didn't feel like calling out a crew to cut 'em down so we just blasted the things and moved them out to make room for a training ground."

"If I had known that my fleets would be used for landscaping on a massive scale, I might have reconsidered giving it to you. But there are a few forests I'd like cleared on Yaga Minor for a new planetary hangar. I'll have to look into that some more. Perhaps a new fundraising venture for the Military. Large scale landscaping.

"If you were given the fleet for the next galactic standard year, what would you do with it? How would it change the Royal Guard outlook on its mandate?"

"I'd have to speak with the Emperor, perhaps increase its use for his personal travel. We already have two of the largest classes in orbit above Kuat, as a small piece of the massive security fleet, but Evenstar, the lone 'Guardian'-class serves as one of the command group, which you know." Tarna sipped his water once more. "Change our mandate? Like I said, unless we increase its use as transportation...our mandate would stay largely the same - defend the Empire's facilities and leaders in space."

Taking a sip, Marix flipped to yet another file on the data-pad.

"What ship classes would you like to see more of in this fleet?"

Tarna replied instantly, "Gunships. We need smaller, more nimble ships to move around easier. There are already a bunch but I'd really like to see the number of small troop carriers doubled if at all possible. Tripled, frankly, but I understand we have a budget." Tarna chuckled.

"Do you have any particular models of the gunships and carriers you would like to see in your fleet?" The Supreme Commander asked.

"No, not in particular. The mechanics have gotten used to the ones we have now, so unless there's an upgraded version the current ones are just fine."

"Ok. Let me see what we have available and what is lined up in our shipyards."

Pausing for a bit, he read through his datapad checking the many shipyards and reserves of the Imperial Navy.

Tarna sipped his water and sighed, "So...any favorites in the upcoming governor's race on Bastion? Both candidates have been shouting about improved relations with you, but that doesn't take much given the attitude of Governor Geoff."

"I find both to be fools. They must surely know that their Supreme Commander dislikes bureaucrats. I'll be sure to have my office make a statement distancing myself from any political race that invokes my name. As long as they keep out of the restricted areas, we can get along fine. What is your grasp of this Geoff's attitude?"

Tarna sighed, "Geoff is a little too 'Bastion Always'. Don't get me wrong, I love and am proud of my new home...but he doesn't know how to work with foreign powers. However, his domestic and homeland skills are unmatched."
